Guild Activities Update

It has been a busy summer for the BVKG!

Planning is well underway for the Stitches, S'Mores & More knit camp this fall. Registration opened in June and volunteers are busy preparing for a fiber and fun-filled weekend. If you have questions or would like to help, please speak up!

Officer elections took place at the July business meeting. For the 2013-2014 year, Rhonda L. is president, Cary H. is vice president, Jean R. is treasurer, and Jill Z. is secretary.

If you haven't yet has a chance to visit the Arts Council of the Brazos Valley exhibition Fiber Arts: All Things Fiber, the show runs through July 31. Several BVKG members have works on display.

April Meeting

This month the program is on knitting a Moebius. In order to learn the cast on, you will need a long circular needle with a flexible cable. A 36” can work, but something a little longer might be easier to manipulate. Bordhi recommends a 47” circular.  Choose yarn according to needle size (worsted, size 8). A 40” length should be fine.

Casting on for a moebius will be the main focus. We’ll look at a few ways to get one started. The beginning is the main challenge.

Yarn Bowl

Paula is putting together a Make Your Own Yarn Bowl class - thank you, Paula, for spearheading this!  Right now it's looking like this will happen in May, with three separate classes held at Living Water Pottery Studio.  More details are on Ravelry - click here for the thread and to sign up.

March and April

Since there was some confusion about the March meeting date, we have decided to push the mobius program to April.  Join us as we learn the magic of the mobius!

Thursday, April 11th at 6:30 at the Larry J. Ringer Library in College Station.

February Meeting 

Our February meeting is just around the corner.  We will be meeting Thursday, February 14th from 6:30 pm-8:30 pm at the Larry J. Ringer Library at 1818 Harvey Mitchell Parkway in College Station.  Our program this month is Color Techniques.  Attendees will have the opportunity to try out intarsia, fair isle, embellishing with crochet and duplicate stitching.

Suggested Materials:

For Intarsia and Fair Isle-2 colors of yarn and appropriate needles.

For Crochet Embellishing and Duplicate Stitch-create a stockinette swatch with a garter stitch border in one color and bring a second color of yarn, crochet hook and tapestry needle.

Our January meeting will be held Thursday,  January 10, 2013 at 6:30 pm-8:30 pm.  We will be meeting at Fuddruckers located at 1704 George Bush Drive East, College Station.  

Our program this month is Resolve to Finish.  We will have knitters on hand to answer any
finishing questions you may have.   We will also be handing out the first clue to the
2013 edition of the Mystery Knit A-Long (MKAL).
